Bed & Breakfast Association NEW ZEALAND - national organisation promoting quality hosted accommodation whose members welcome visitors into their regularly inspected and assessed homes and properties.

Accommodation includes Bed and Breakfasts, Homestays, Countrystays, Farmstays, Boutique B & Bs and Luxury Accommodation.

A stay in an Bed & Breakfast Association NEW ZEALAND member’s property will provide a guest with a unique and distinctive experience. Members pride themselves on friendly, hosted accommodation and are passionate about their locality and country.
It is the industry sector representative body for people who offer home hosting such as Bed and Breakfast, farmstays, countrystays, homestays, self contained etc

• Members are assisted individually or regionally when Councils or Government agencies target B&Bs. The Association will lobby on members behalf on regulation and bureaucracy matters regarding home hosting

• Members use of the logo indicate to travellers that they are quality assessed and meet the standards set down by the Association

• Members have access to speedy, professional advice regarding all hosting issues

• Subscriptions are reasonable and affordable and tax deductible

• Being a member immediately qualifies you for a free listing on the Association’s website which means it is a ‘free’ marketing tool

• Members can individually affiliate to TIANZ (Tourism Industry Assn of New Zealand) for a greatly reduced subscription. They offer benefits such as discounts, reduced credit card rates, travel accommodation to name a few.

• Members can network and be part of regional groups, and attend the national conference

• For a reasonable cost, members can advertise in the Bed & Breakfast Association NEW ZEALAND´s Accommodation Directory. These directories are free to the public.

Code of Practice

Bed & Breakfast Association NEW ZEALAND has formulated the following Code of Practice which members are required to observe


  • To provide the highest standards of quality, service and personal hospitality on their property.
  • To ensure a high standard of courtesy, cleanliness, comfort, catering and service appropriate to quality home hosting. To always strive to offer value for money.
  • To describe clearly and accurately to booking agents, guests and prospective guests the amenities, facilities and services provided and the customs of the family home.
  • To make clear to guests exactly what is included in all prices quoted, including GST. To allow guests to see accommodation, if requested, before booking.
  • To make no supplementary charge to guests for facilities and services included in the agreed rate, and to clearly explain the cost of additional services when this is requested.
  • To honour all confirmed bookings as binding
  • To deal promptly and courteously with all enquiries, reservations, correspondence, requests, comments and complaints.
  • To be alert to the special needs of prospective visitors at the time of booking.
  • To comply with the various laws, regulations, and bylaws that affect home hosting.

Any printed material on which a member has included the Association logo is to be submitted to the secretary, if requested. The Association Logo must not be a principal feature on such printed material.

Members who resign from the Association are obligated to notify the national secretary of their resignation.

It is advisable that members state in their advertising the type of breakfast they serve, ie continental or full.

Support other members of the Association, including the referral of would-be guests when unable to accommodate those persons. (as per the Association’s Constitution 10.6). It is not considered acceptable to refer an overflow of guests to friends.
